ELECTED OFFICIALS - Mayor and City Council
The Mayor occupies the highest elective office in a municipal government. As the political head of the city, the mayor provides leadership necessary to keep the government moving in the proper direction. The mayor presides over council meeting and is recognized as the ceremonial and governmental head of the city.
The City Council serves as the legislative branch of the municipality. a Council members primary duty is policy making. Though foremost in importance, lawmaking is only one of the various functions of a council member. They are Regulators - exercising regulatory powers of the conduct and property of its citizens; Financiers - levying taxes, assessing fees and charges; Employer - responsible for city employees, seeing that they are adequately paid and provide decent working conditions; and Buyers - safeguarding that city funds are expensed to get the best possible value for dollars spent.
The City of New Boston operates under the Council - City Administrator structure of government. As such, the elected governing body is responsible for legislative functions and developing an overall vision for the city. The City Administrator is appointed by the city council to oversee administrative operations, implement the council's policies, and to serve as its executive officer.
